Rowhouse Renovation
Graphic Designer’s Studio and Residence
This project is a collaboration between a graphic designer and an architect who are both alumni of Pentagram. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it became clear to the graphic designer that having a larger residence with a functional studio is preferred to renting an office space, and the architect helped convert this Tudor row-house into a graphic design bureau with a residence above. Following excavation of the existing cellar, and the backyard, an additional usable floor was created and became the designer’s studio. The ground floor received an additional bathroom and became a large open space that combined kitchen and the living room, while the upper level houses the living quarters. The millwork, that includes screens and storage hidden in stairs, is a collaborative design between the graphic designer and the architect.
