Our proposal for TOGS pavilion is to create an extraordinary, whimsical, magical 24/7 space out of the mundane, cheap, readily-available material subjected to Texan sunlight and heat. The use of sonotubes will provide for a combination of sun-light filtering, natural ventilation and focused illumination, as well as the overall structure for the pavilion. The roof is shrink-wrapped by translucent breathable (but water-tight) membrane that is commonly used to package boats for storage. This wrapped bulkhead, or TOGGED TUBES, forms the exterior identity of the pavilion. It also diffuses sunlight, vents out hot air and keeps the elements out of the interior. Finally, a flexible network of cables, responding to specific conditions of a particular location of the pavilion, serves as a tent support for the exterior “curtain wall” – a weatherproof fabric that is meant to help define the interior of the pavilion when needed, or completely open it into the city when the occasion calls for it.
